Terms of service

Last updated: March 20, 2026

Splitea is an app for scanning receipts, assigning items per person, and calculating how much each participant should pay or transfer. These terms describe the basic rules for using the service, the nature of the calculations shown by the app, and certain operational limitations of the product.

1. Acceptance of the terms

By using Splitea, you accept these terms and the Privacy policy. If you do not agree with these conditions, you should not use the app.

2. Who can use Splitea

You may only use the service if you have the legal capacity to accept these terms and are not prevented from doing so by the laws applicable in your jurisdiction. You are responsible for ensuring that your use of the product complies with the rules that apply to you.

3. Description of the service

Splitea allows you to capture or upload receipt images, extract structured information from the receipt, assign items to participants, and calculate how much each person should pay or transfer.

4. Nature of the service

The service is designed to split informal expenses among friends, couples, roommates, coworkers, travelers, and other groups that share purchases or consumption. It is not presented as accounting, financial, or legal advice.

5. Non-binding calculations and records

The amounts, split suggestions, per-person summaries, and transfers shown by Splitea are support tools for organizing shared expenses. They do not constitute official financial records or legally binding agreements between participants.

6. Accuracy of the information

The app may rely on OCR, AI, and normalization logic to read receipts, but it does not guarantee that every reading will be perfect. You should review the extracted information, assignments, and amounts before using the result to settle an expense.

7. Account and access

Some features may require Google authentication and an active account for cloud sync, shared receipts, or recovery of user-linked data.

8. Acceptable use

You agree to use Splitea only for its intended purpose. You must not use the service for fraud, identity impersonation, uploading content you do not have the right to share, abuse of third parties, malicious account manipulation, or any activity that breaks the law or harms other users or the product infrastructure.

9. User-uploaded content

You are responsible for the receipt images, participant names, notes, and any other content you upload or share in the app. You must have the necessary rights and authorizations to upload that information and to include other people's data when applicable.

10. Shared receipts and collaboration

When you share a receipt, some expense information may be visible to the participants linked to that receipt. You are responsible for verifying that the participant group is correct before syncing or sharing an expense.

11. Third-party services

Some features depend on third-party services, including Google Sign-In, Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, and backend or OCR/AI services related to receipt processing. The use of those components may be subject to their own terms and availability.

12. Service availability

Some features depend on internet connectivity, backend services, and infrastructure providers. Service availability may vary due to maintenance, technical changes, or third-party integrations.

13. Suspension or termination

Splitea may limit, suspend, or terminate access to the service when reasonably necessary to protect the platform, investigate misuse, comply with legal obligations, or respond to security incidents.

14. No warranties

The service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. To the extent permitted by applicable law, there is no guarantee that the app will operate without interruption, that calculations will always be accurate, or that the service will meet every particular need of each user or group.

15. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by applicable law, Splitea will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential losses arising from the use of or inability to use the service, including disputes between participants, manual entry errors, imperfect receipt readings, or dependence on third-party services.

16. Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated to reflect changes in the product, operating model, or legal requirements. The version published on this page should be considered the most recent version.
